Konfloor LTD were contracted to install the floor slab to a new Distribution centre for Primark.
The new 16,000m² Warehouse is an extension to its existing operations at Naas, Co Kildare, Ireland.
Due to poor condition a jointless piled slab was designed and reinforced with three layers of heavy A393 mesh on heavy Duty Gas membrane. The floor was also specified to achieve abrasion resistance classification AR1, which was achieved using a natural colour quartz dry-shake. Furthermore, the floor had to be cast to FM2 “special” tolerance.
Due to the extremely tight construction programme for the building handover, Konfloor proposed to cast the slab over eight consecutive days. This meant pours of 2,000m² with 600m³ concrete per pour and the placing of 3 layers A393 Mesh .
In order to achieve the two of the most critical aspects of this project, i.e. Programme & FM2 “special” tolerance, Konfloor utilised their Somero SXP laser screed & telescopic dry shake spreading machine.
Another critical factor in achieving our programme and floor tolerance was the construction joints. Originally these joints had been designed to incorporate 50mm x 50mm angle with fish tail anchors, meaning a very labour intensive joint formation requiring wooden edge shutters that could not be struck for at least 3 days after each pour had been completed. To overcome this hurdle Konfloor used Permaban's leave in place Alpha Joint 4010 as seen in the image to the right.
Working against the clock and with a total of 22 operatives on site, Konfloor completed the slab in the allocated eight days. In addition the floor was surveyed by FACE Consultants confirming compliance with FM2 “special” tolerance as per TR34, 2003 edition.
